However, the increase in DAP fertilizer subsidy by the central government has benefited the farmers of South Gujarat to the tune of Rs 200 crore. An atmosphere of happiness is being witnessed among the farmers.
Farmers in South Gujarat are benefiting a lot from the central government’s increase in DAP fertilizer subsidy. Informing about this, farmer leader Jayesh Patel said that the central government has decided to increase the fertilizer subsidy to provide relief to 140 million farmers in the country. With the onset of kharif crop season, import of raw material for DAP fertilizer has become very expensive. The prices of urea and other fertilizers are also expected to rise. The central government has decided to provide additional subsidy of Rs 850 per bag of DAP to the farmers. The decision has been welcomed by the farmers of South Gujarat.
The government has not increased the price of urea fertilizer for eight years, but there has been a huge increase in DAP and urea fertilizer as well as raw material in the international market. The subsidy received was Rs 1650 per bag, which has been increased to Rs 2500 per bag. This means that the amount of subsidy has increased by an average of Rs. 850.
It can be seen that the annual consumption of DAP fertilizer for the farmers of South Gujarat is 120,000 tons. Sugarcane is the main crop of South Gujarat. For which special requirement of DAP fertilizer is required. Then due to this decision of the government, the farmers of South Gujarat will get a benefit of 200 crores.
Welcoming the decision, Sandeep Desai, vice-chairman, Surat APMC, said that despite the rise in prices of fertilizers and raw materials in the international market, the representations made to the Prime Minister, Union Co-operation Minister Amit Shah and Fertilizer Minister Mansukh Mandvia have paid off.
