He said, ‘If the soil is becoming healthier today, production is also increasing. Soil health has also improved in many states of the country due to the promotion of micro-irrigation and the Atal Yojana. And there has been a record increase in the number of wildlife. “Today, whether it is a tiger, a lion, a leopard or an elephant, the number in the country is increasing,” he said.
The PM said that India today continues to focus on innovation and environmental technology for the protection of the environment. He said the LED bulb lighting project is reducing carbon emissions by about 40 million tonnes annually. The Prime Minister said that India had set a target of 40 per cent of its established energy production capacity from non-fossil fuel based sources and it has achieved that target nine years earlier.
Promoting natural agriculture
He said that in this year’s budget, the government has decided to promote natural agriculture in the villages along the Ganges and create a wide corridor of natural agriculture. This will not only make our farms chemical free, it will also give new impetus to the Namami Ganga campaign. Prime Minister Modi said that India has set a target of achieving 40% of its established power generation capacity from non-fossil fuel based sources. India has achieved this target 9 years earlier than it set. India is also working towards the target of restoring 26 million hectares of barren land by 2030.
“This is the first time in the country that we have linked our villages and cities to cleanliness, fuel self-sufficiency, extra income to farmers and land health,” Modi said. Referring to the Gobardhan scheme, he said that under this, cow dung and other agricultural wastes are converted into energy from the biogas plant.
1600 varieties of seeds available to farmers in 8 years
He said that if you ever visit Kashi-Vishwanath, there is also cow dung plant a few kilometers away, you will definitely come to see it. Of these, organic manure is being used in farms. He said that in the last 7-8 years more than 1600 new varieties of seeds have also been made available to the farmers so that they can produce enough without putting extra pressure on the soil.
