Ben Stokes: England’s superstar all-rounder Ben Stokes has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. Stokes announced his retirement from the format on Monday 18 July via his social media accounts. Stokes also said that South Africa on Tuesday 19 July (England vs South Africa)The first ODI against will be the last match of his career in this format. The 3-match ODI series between England and South Africa will begin on Tuesday, with the first match being played in Durham. In this way, Stokes will say goodbye to ODI cricket from his home ground.

Stokes, who was recently appointed as England’s Test captain, explained his decision in a lengthy statement and explained the reason for it, which is truly worrying. Stokes said, “I will play my last match in ODI cricket for England in Durham on Tuesday. I have decided to retire from this format. It was a very difficult decision to make. I enjoyed every minute of playing for England with my teammates. Our trip was very memorable.”

Stokes continued in his statement, “It may have been a very difficult decision to make but it was no more difficult than facing the fact that in this format I can no longer give 100 per cent to my teammates and England. Three formats is too much for me now. Not only is my body supporting me because of the schedule and the expectations placed on us, but I feel like I’m taking the place of someone who can give dedication to Jose and the team.
