44th Chess Olympiad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Narendra Modi) of the 44th Chess Olympiad from July 28 to August 10 in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu (Chess Olympiad) was inaugurated. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur were also present along with the Prime Minister. The opening ceremony had a glimpse of Tamil culture.

Events from July 28 to August 10
The 44th Chess Olympiad held in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu was held from July 28 to August 10. India is hosting Chess Olympiad for the first time and it is predicted to be the biggest Chess Olympiad ever. More than 2000 players from 189 countries are participating in it. Being the hosts, India is fielding the largest squad of 20 players.
India’s record
India participated in the Chess Olympiad for the first time in 1956 and finished 27th. India has won the gold medal once (with joint winners Russia in 2020) and the bronze medal twice (2014, 2021) at the Chess Olympics.
