A dog adoption is never an easy process. Although most people would assume it is, adopting an animal comes with a lot of responsibility, especially if the animal has had some negative experiences in the past. It turns out, though, that some of the most rewarding pets to possess are also some of the most difficult to care for. Nobody understood why Benji kept going back to the shelter after being adopted. By this time, it had already occurred 11 times, and all his owners had done was keep coming up with lame excuses. It wasn’t until the new trainee decided to take Benji home with her that they realised the full extent of Benji’s issue.
He was returned once more.
Benji was a mixed breed, thus no one was certain to which breed he belonged. He was a Labrador and Golden Retriever hybrid, with a little Asian Village Dog thrown in for good measure. He was a great lovely boy while he was in the shelter, but he simply can’t seem to stay in one household for very long. As she returned to the shelter, Stacy was undoubtedly upset and affected by the event. Benji was dozing off in the backseat of the car. They felt let down.
Any time a dog must be brought back to the shelter is never a good time. It might be challenging enough when a dog is later returned to a shelter after adoption requests are eventually granted. And to think that Benji has already received twelve returns in all… Three other staff members were there when Stacy and Benji arrived since she had made some prior arrangements. They were understandably unhappy that the adoption had fallen through, but they were also eager to learn why since here was their chance to finally get a straight answer.
