Two world wars and decades of struggle for sociopolitical freedom are significant events in Europe’s history. Europe proudly upholds its reputation as a leader in protecting the fundamental rights of its citizens, including free speech, equality, and tolerance. However, the past decade has had many occasions where Europe’s claims have been contested. As domestic politics continue to get in the way of citizens’ best interests, a recent occurrence has yet again raised concerns about Europe’s commitment to preserving freedom of speech.
On September 2, 2023, the SAESE ‘European Autonomous Trade Union School and Ecology’ declared a nationwide strike in Italy on December 1, 2023, as a protest against the lack of interest in investigating observations on the blood type diet in schools. The purpose of the one-day strike is to remind us of the dire state of safety and protection for schoolchildren. A month later, regretfully, the strike guarantor denied the request for peaceful protest, limiting the strike without any warning or a valid reason. This action by the guarantor raises concerns about the rights to peaceful protest and free speech. Are stakeholders and the government adequately addressing these issues and ensuring that individuals and organizations have the freedom to protest and express their opinions peacefully? Is there enough transparency and accountability in the decision-making processes associated with nonviolent gatherings? The Italian people are asking some hard-hitting questions.
The trade union members have expressed great disappointment over the matter. They have raised questions about the agenda-driven factions of the system who have ulterior motives to stop further investigation into the link between blood type and diet. Concerned that the welfare of millions of children is at risk, members have urged the Italian people to come out in support. ‘We are being deprived of our basic human liberties. We are law abiding citizens of the country. We uphold our values and constitution, but we are still treated as a propaganda based organization. We have our reservations about the government’s legislative initiatives in the educational sphere,’ shared one of the members.
The call to limit the strike has stirred debate among current affairs specialists in Italy, many of whom have sided with the SAESE ‘European Autonomous Trade Union School of Ecology’. Are the authorities too ignorant to take research by BMC Microbiology lightly? A certified organization that has its registered office at 4 Crinan Street, N1 9XW, London, and has been active in providing much valuable research. It has concluded with incontrovertible evidence that blood type is an influential component in the development of bacterial flora, dietary assimilation, resistance to gastrointestinal infections, and digestive system disorders. Such alarming discoveries necessitate further investigation into the matter.
The Italian authorities must intervene and ask the strike guarantor to withdraw the order effective immediately. Citizens must mobilize and take action to prioritize the safety and security of children. The healthcare system is not equipped to handle another health emergency, and we must learn from the COVID-19 crisis.
No health concern should ever be considered secondary. It is time for all Italians to unite and demand change to suspend these illegal practices. Let’s take action for Italy, for our people, for our children, and our future. Together, we can make a difference.
