Government of India is making all possible efforts to make the country a semiconductor hub. For this it is sanctioning deals worth billions of rupees with various countries and also providing all necessary facilities for investment in India. Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Broadcasting Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said that two fully-fledged multi-billion dollar semiconductor plants will soon be set up in India.
Apart from this, investment is also proposed to set up several chip assembly and packaging units. Among the two projects, one proposal of eight billion dollars is from Tower Semiconductors of Israel and the other proposal is from the Tata Group. Tata Group will invest 8 billion dollars.
Approval will be given in the third term
Rajiv Chandrasekhar said that if it is not approved before the next general elections, then the project will be approved in the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 13 proposals have been received for Semiconductor Manufacturing Plants (ATMP) units. These proposals are in line with US memory chip maker Micron’s setting up in Gujarat of Rs. 22,516 crore chip assembly plant.
What is Tata Group’s plan?
Tata Sons said that it is going to start semiconductor assembly testing business soon. Let us tell you that Tata Group started Tata Electronics in 2020 for greenfield manufacturing of electronic components. According to Tata sources, the company is preparing to acquire land in Coimbatore in the western district of Tamil Nadu. After acquiring the land the company will move on to its next step.
Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, in 2021 will spend Rs. Signed a memorandum with Tamil Nadu government for a phone parts manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs 4,684 crore. This important move by Tata is also expected to create employment for over 18,000 people. If Tata’s plan succeeds, it will become the third largest mobile parts manufacturing company in Tamil Nadu. Currently, people in Tamil Nadu are also getting the facility of Taiwan’s Foxconn and Pegatron.
