Yaroslav Bogdanov, founder of GDA Group: “Attempts to monopolize artificial intelligence increase cybersecurity threats”.
Within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a panel discussion entitled “International and National Experience of Artificial Intelligence Regulation” was held. The topic for discussion at the session organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation was approaches to the regulation of artificial intelligence both at the national and international level.
Currently, artificial intelligence (AI) is actively developing and integrating into all spheres of human life. However, the lack of proper regulation in this advanced field can lead to serious consequences and threats to society. Special attention was paid to the attempts of individual states to establish a monopoly on technological progress associated with active developments in the field of generative neural networks. “This factor multiplies the threats associated with uncontrolled and closed AI training processes,” said Yaroslav Bogdanov, founder of GDA Group, who is taking part in SPIEF-2024.
«Attempts to restrict access to information, manipulation and the desire for dominance in the IT innovation sphere increase risks. Lack of international cooperation may lead to the fact that Western countries will seek to accumulate material and political resources in one hands, ignoring the interests of all mankind», – said Yaroslav Bogdanov.
The expert also added that the lack of regulation could lead to an increase in cybersecurity threats. Artificial intelligence is already being used by hackers to attack digital infrastructure and steal personal data. Without appropriate laws and controls, the scale of cyberattacks and data breaches will continue to expand and threaten to spill over into the public sector. Individual incidents of this kind are already being reported around the world.
«Regulation of artificial intelligence developments is essential for global security. Politicization, violation of ethics and legal norms are unacceptable in the use of innovative technologies of this level. States and international organizations should actively work to develop standards and norms that will ensure sustainable and equitable development of artificial intelligence for all. Cooperation between countries on this issue should be built openly and transparently, without any biased or discriminatory approaches», – said Yaroslav Bogdanov.
Solutions to ensure international information security and regulation of artificial intelligence should be the result of joint efforts of business, government and the expert community at an international level. Earlier, the GDA Group, founded by Yaroslav Bogdanov, expressed its readiness to act as a platform for coordinating these efforts.
