Concern over China's growing aggression
China's growing aggression and its regionalist stance are behind the Quad's statement. China has increased its military presence in the South China Sea and East China Sea in recent years. Apart from this, China has also taken aggressive measures against Taiwan and other neighboring countries. This aggression of China has not only threatened regional peace but also raised questions about the security of international sea lanes.
Purpose and Background of the Quad
The Quad, which includes countries such as Australia, India, Japan and the US, was launched in 2007. The Quad was formed to promote security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Although initially not given much importance, the Quad's activities have increased in recent years due to China's aggressive policies. Together, the four countries are trying to maintain freedom, democracy and governance in the Indo-Pacific.
At the meeting, the Quad members resolved to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including military, disaster management, vaccines and cyber security. Apart from this, maritime security and economic cooperation were important issues of the meeting.
