US President Joe Biden hosted Diwali celebrations at the White House on Monday
Vice President Kamala Harris Biden's wife Dr. Jill Biden was unable to attend the event as she was busy campaigning.
“As President, I have had the privilege of organizing the largest Diwali celebration ever at the White House,” Biden said in the East Room of the White House. It is a matter of great pleasure for me.
Before Biden's speech, US Surgeon General Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, retired US Navy officer and NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and 'Indian-American youth activist' Shruti Amula also addressed the special Diwali function.
Sunita sent a video message recorded from the International Space Station. At the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the 'Blue Room' of the White House, Biden said that the South Asian American community has enriched every part of American life. (Image Courtesy-PTI)
