Generally, Indians who go to work in developed countries like America, Britain, Canada get citizenship there after some time. In such a situation they have to give up their Indian citizenship.
If an Indian citizen takes citizenship of another country after becoming an NRI and renounces Indian citizenship, can he become an Indian citizen again?
After becoming an NRI a person can become an Indian citizen again. The procedure for this is laid down under the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955. You can reapply for citizenship.
It is possible to regain Indian citizenship, but a prescribed legal procedure must be followed. A person has to apply to the Government of India to regain Indian citizenship.
A person has to prove that he has maintained connection with India even after renouncing his citizenship. Apart from this, the condition of staying in India for a certain period has to be fulfilled.
If a person cannot fully regain Indian citizenship, he can apply for an OCI card. It gives the right to live, work and buy property in India, but is not considered full citizenship.
