Tech innovator, data expert, and author Tosin Ojo made a compelling case for a structured approach to career transition and skills development at the AGC Trade Fair and Exhibition in the UK. Presenting his vision of “Community as a Platform,” Ojo emphasized the need to bridge the gap between aspiring professionals and industry opportunities through mentorship, project-based learning, and real-world work experience.
Unlike conventional career support initiatives, Community as a Platform is designed as a dynamic ecosystem that fosters deep connections, knowledge exchange, and collaboration within the tech industry. While similar approaches exist, this model proposes a unique structure that goes beyond just mentorship or skills training. It creates meaningful linkages between innovators, job seekers, and industry professionals, ensuring that aspiring tech professionals not only gain experience but also become part of a network that accelerates their growth and opens doors to opportunities.
As the co-founder of an edtech company and founder of the Digital Skills and Talent Foundation in Nigeria, Ojo has played a pivotal role in equipping individuals and businesses with essential digital skills. Through the Digith Community, he has helped numerous job seekers and career switchers gain hands-on experience by connecting them with industry experts, guiding them through practical projects, and offering short-term internships to validate their skills.
Beyond his work in skills development, Ojo is a recognized data expert and author, having written books on analytics and data-driven decision-making. His deep expertise in data has positioned him as a thought leader in the industry, further strengthening his commitment to empowering the next generation of tech professionals.
Recognizing that more can be done to make tech careers accessible, Ojo, alongside his partner Ifeoluwa Omole, is now working to expand this impact to the UK. His goal is to establish a structured pathway for individuals transitioning into tech, ensuring they receive the support, experience, and mentorship necessary to succeed in a competitive job market.
“The tech industry is full of opportunities, but access remains a challenge for many. We need to do more to ensure aspiring professionals have the guidance and real-world experience they need to break in and thrive,” Ojo stated.
