
The UN Security Council (UNSC) held a meeting on the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The meeting was held in a closed door, ie in one room. The discussion was made by Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Despite nuclear weapons between the two countries, tensions are on the rise and this has raised concerns.
The meeting lasted three to four hours. At present, there are 15 countries at the Security Council and Pakistan requested the meeting as a temporary member. However, no official statement has been made after this meeting. Pakistan used the Global Forum to spread false information about India.
At the meeting, Pakistan started crying on India’s steps after the Pahalgam attack. Apart from this, Kashmir was also discussed at the meeting. In the consultation room instead of the main seat chamber
Evangelos Seerris, a permanent representative of Greece in the UN and president of the current Security Council, described the meeting as “productive and helpful”. However, he admitted that no specific results were obtained. The Security Council always helps in such efforts to reduce stress. The main meeting of the UNSC was held in the consultation room instead of the chamber. No official registration or resolution has been announced as the discussion took place privately in the consultation room.
UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and Pacific, Khaled Mohammad Khayari, who informed the council and told reporters that all members have expressed their desire to de-escalation. What was special was that no one was convicted at the meeting nor the Pakistani allegations were confirmed against India.
Syed Akbaruddin commented
Before the meeting of the Security Council began, Syed Akbaruddin commented that such a debate could not be expected of any results where a party (ie Pakistan) was trying to shape assumptions by its membership at the conference. He further said that India would ignore such Pakistani efforts.
Pakistan blame India
Pakistan is currently a member of a non-term group of 15-nation Security Council, where it requested a “close consultation” on the current situation. Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, a permanent representative of Pakistan in the UN, made it clear that the consultation was intended to discuss the security situation and increased pressure to the members of the council. The goal was that to exchange ideas to discuss the situation, including avoiding conflicts to avoid serious consequences.
Emphasizing the need to reduce tensions, the Pakistani ambassador blamed India for its military building and provocative measures. He also added that Pakistan is “fully prepared” to protect its sovereignty and integrity. In addition, he accused India of pursuing his political and strategic interests by rejecting Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack on April 22.

Emphasizing the need to reduce tensions, the Pakistanis blamed India for raising the military and provocation. He said that Pakistan is fully ready to protect itself. At the same time, he alleged that India was rejecting Pakistan’s role in the Pahlgam attack and its political interests.
UN Chief condemned the Pahlgam attack
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for peace and restraint between India and Pakistan following a terrorist attack in Pahlgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, with 26 civilians, including a Nepalese citizen. The General Secretary expressed special concern over the increasing tensions, as stressing the current state of India-Pakistan relations. He expressed his commitment to communicate with both parties in the hope of calming the situation through diplomatic efforts.

External Affairs Minister S. Jayashankar spoke to members of the UN Security Council, besides China and Pakistan, and emphasized that Pahlgam should blame the attackers for the terrorist attack.
