According to the ICC Rulebook, Rule No. 17 “Over” is a set of six valid balls thrown by the bowler.
When the bowler starts a run-up (if there is no run-up, starts the order of throwing the ball), the over is counted.
Only Valid Balls (that is, no-ball, wide ball or dead ball) is counted in the over. That is, six balls that the umpire are considered valid, are required to fulfill the over.
When six valid balls are thrown, the umpire announces the over by saying “over”.
As a rule, no bowler can throw another over immediately after one over. The second end changes after each over and the second bowler overs. (All Photo Credit: PTI / ICC / MCC / X)
