ICC Rule no. 37 Obstructing the field means interrupting the fielder with the intentional behavior of the batsman, causing the ball to catch or interrupt the runout.
If the batsman deliberately prevents the ball by hand, comes in between or runs a bat, he can be out under this rule.
If the batsman avoids injury or inadvertently stops the ball, the umpire declares him not out.
The bowler does not get a wicket for this type of out, but in some cases the batting team gets a penalty of 5 runs.
Obstructing the field is less important but one of the important decisions for the umpires in the rules of cricket. (All Photo Credit: PTI / ICC / MCC / X)
