On the morning of September 20 (local time), the “Dunhuang Cultural Week: Dunhuang Meets London” themed communicaton event, hosted by the Dunhuang Academy, officially launched at Regent’s University London, UK. Representatives from the Chinese and British cultural sector, art enthusiasts, university teachers and students, as well as media professionals gathered at the venue to witness this cultural feast that integrates millennia civilization with modern technology. Dunhuang culture inherently features the fusion of diverse cultures. It is hoped that through this event, more British people, especially British students, will gain an understanding of the inclusive spirit of compatibility and mutual learning among civilizations embodied in traditional Chinese culture.
This event provides a platform for the British public to experience the charm of Dunhuang art closely and from multiple dimensions. With “art + technology” at its core, the event consists of three key sections: art exhibition, interactive experience and cultural sharing. The art exhibition includes the “High-Fidelity Replica of Dunhuang Murals”, which displays 16 exquisite replica murals covering themes such as architecture, flying apsaras and music and dance. The “Dunhuang Landscape View” light and shadow art space recreates the artistic conception of the blue and green landscape in Cave 217 of Mogao Grottoes with digital technology, creating an immersive aesthetic space.
The interactive area became the highlight of the event. “Dream of Dunhuang” AI photography generates customized digital images through face fusion and produces refrigerator magnets. The “Painting Murals in Dunhuang” digital experience allows the audience to participate in traditional art processes such as line drawing and color filling. The cultural sharing section includes themed cultural lectures, the “Fragrance Traces on the Silk Road” experience course and the “Encountering Dunhuang Colors” art salon. Through handcrafting, color painting and sensory immersive experience, the event interprets Dunhuang aesthetics and the cultural stories in depth.
The “Dunhuang Cultural Week” is an important practice of the Dunhuang Academy to promote the international communication and innovative expression of Dunhuang culture. With the help of digital technology and cross-sector cooperation, Dunhuang culture steps onto the world stage in a younger and more approachable way, promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and the UK.
The “Dunhuang Cultural Week” open to the public from September 20 to 22, aiming to create a cultural dialogue across time. It allows the London audiences to experience the eternal charm of Dunhuang art closely.

The “Dunhuang Cultural Week” is an international communication project of Dunhuang culture designed by the Dunhuang Academy. With Dunhuang culture as its theme, the project carries out a series of activities such as digital exhibitions, academic lectures and art workshops in foreign museums or universities. It aims to integrate Dunhuang culture into the communication context of foreign young people, enhance the international community’s recognition and respect for brilliant traditional Chinese culture, improving its international influence.
