According to media reports, several major projects have been approved for the army. These include Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mark-2 (NAMIS), Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES) and High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) with material handling cranes.
Monitoring electronic signals
According to the ministry, NAMIS will help destroy enemy combat vehicles, bunkers and other fortifications. GBMES will monitor enemy electronic signals 24 hours a day. HMVs will also improve logistical support in various sectors.
Several major proposals for the Navy have also been approved. These include smart ammunition for landing platform docks (LPDs), 30mm naval surface guns, advanced lightweight torpedoes (ALWTs), electro-optical infra-red search and track systems and 76mm super rapid gun mounts.
ALWTs developed by DRDO are capable of targeting conventional, nuclear and small submarines. The 30mm naval gun will be effective in maritime security and deterring piracy. The Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS) has been approved for the Air Force.
Self-reliant India
The system is capable of flying, landing, navigating and delivering payloads to the mission area. The approval is a major step towards promoting indigenous technology under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This will increase the strength of the army and also boost defense production.
