The players of the Indian team who won the ICC Women's World Cup for the first time are being honored across the country. State governments are also awarding world champion athletes of their states. West Bengal government honored wicketkeeper batsman Richa Ghosh.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh, who played a key role in Team India's victory in the 2025 World Cup, received a grand welcome on his arrival in his hometown Siliguri on Friday. He was then felicitated and awarded at a special event by the West Bengal Government and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appointed 22-year-old Richa to the post of DSP and also honored her with Bang Bhushan, the state's second-highest civilian honour, at a function held at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on Saturday, November 8. Mamata Banerjee also gifted Richa a special gold chain.
CAB president Sourav Ganguly gifted Rs 34 lakh to Richa on behalf of the association. Richa got this amount as a gift for scoring 34 runs in the final against Africa. Richa was also gifted a gold plated bat and ball.
Richa scored 235 runs in eight innings at a record-breaking strike rate of 133 in the World Cup. Richa also equaled the world record of hitting 12 sixes in a women's World Cup. (PC : PTI)
