At the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed three important global initiatives. He stressed the need to rethink global development parameters and announced special initiatives for traditional knowledge, skill development in Africa and joint fight against the drug-terrorism nexus.
Need to rethink development parameters
Addressing the inaugural session, PM Modi said that current global development models have deprived large populations of resources and encouraged overexploitation of nature. These challenges are felt more acutely in Africa. He said that as Africa is hosting the G20 summit for the first time, it is the right time to think deeply about the dimensions of development.
PM Modi asserted that “integrated humanism” is a path that connects man, society and nature as a whole. Only through this approach can the balance between progress and nature be maintained.
Three main proposals of PM Modi
1. Global Traditional Knowledge Repository
Many communities around the world have adopted lifestyles that maintain ecological balance, cultural heritage and social harmony. PM Modi introduced an initiative to create a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository under the G20.

This repository will document, preserve and share traditional knowledge with the world. He also said that India's Indian Knowledge System initiative can be the basis of this global platform.
2. G20–Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative
PM Modi said that the development of Africa is in the interest of the whole world. He introduced a new initiative called the G20–Africa Skills Multiplier.

This will adopt a “Train-the-Trainers” model to produce one million certified trainers in Africa over the next 10 years. These trainers will later be able to impart necessary skills and employment training to millions of youth. All G20 members will support and fund this process.
3. G20 initiative to tackle the drug-terror nexus
Expressing concern over the rapid spread of deadly synthetic drugs like fentanyl, PM Modi said such drugs pose a serious threat to public health, social stability and global security.

He introduced a special G20 initiative to combat the drug-terror nexus. The initiative will integrate financial systems, legal governance and security infrastructure. It will aim to disrupt drug trafficking networks, prevent illicit financial transactions and weaken sources of funding for terrorism.
A call to strengthen India-Africa cooperation
PM Modi said that the relationship between India and Africa has always been strong. The permanent membership of the African Union during the New Delhi G20 Summit was a historic step in this direction. He expressed the expectation that all countries should move together to make the voice of the Global South stronger on every global platform.
