Ayodhya: A flag hoisting ceremony is being held in Ramnagari Ayodhya on November 25. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the religious flag for the first time on the sikhar of the newly constructed Ram temple. Preparations for this entire ceremony have been going on for a long time. Recently there was news that the Ram Mandir Trust has returned the flag set in the ceremony following the Ministry of Defence's instructions. Now, a new flag has been prepared. Then the question arises as to why the Army and Ministry of Defense are taking interest in the planning of this entire program.
The Army has actually made this recommendation regarding the weight of the 'Dharma Dhvaj', also known as the 'Sun Flag'. According to the latest guidelines, its weight is now fixed at around 2.5 kg. The flag is made of nylon-silk blended polymer, which is lightweight, strong and durable. However, the original flag weighed around 11 kg.
Changes made for this reason
The Mandir Nirman Samiti had initially fixed the flag weight of 11 kilograms. It was to be made of parachute fabric, which could withstand gusts (up to 60 km/h). However, during tests, weight-related problems (such as rope breakage) were identified. So, a decision was made to lose weight.
Features of the new flag
It will have a lifespan of about three years and will be replaced every three years. The flag is 22 feet long and 11 feet wide, and can rotate 360 degrees at a height of 205 feet. It is also worth noting that the weight of the flagpole is 5.5 tonnes (about 5500 kilograms). It is 44 feet tall and was brought from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
When Narendra Modi hoists this flag on November 25, 2025, it will mark the completion of the construction of the temple. The flag features symbols of the sun, Om and the Kovidara tree, all based on the Valmiki Ramayana.
Why is the army's help being taken in flag hoisting?
Now the question is why the army is helping to hoist the flag for the Ram temple flag hoisting ceremony. Because the Army has the expertise to deal with technical and practical challenges like size, weight and height of the flag. To ensure that the flag is hoisted safely and efficiently, the expertise and support of the Army is required. The Indian Army has experience and expertise in hoisting flags on such large and tall structures, so their help is being sought. Army personnel have also rehearsed several times to ensure that everything goes according to plan.
