Industry leaders are planning an ambitious plan to create 10 crore jobs in the country. India's working-age population is growing by about 1.2 crore every year, while traditional employment sectors, such as manufacturing, are struggling to create enough jobs for this growing population.
A.J. Patel added that startups and small businesses, which contribute about 30% of India's gross domestic product (GDP) and are the largest employers, should expand beyond big cities. He said that if 8-9 lakh jobs are to be created annually in India, it is imperative to remove structural barriers to make entrepreneurship a viable option for the common man.
Harish Mehta said, "Hundred Million Jobs is a strategic effort to strengthen employment creators – entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium enterprises and employers. This initiative will bring together expertise, entrepreneurship, data and policy, ensuring stable and dignified livelihoods for the next generation."
The 'hundred million jobs' mission will put entrepreneurship, skill development and labour-intensive industries at the center of India's employment strategy. The initiative aims to make employment generation a key dimension of economic growth and focuses on ensuring decentralized, sustainable livelihoods across all sectors.
The founders said that India's working-age population is growing by about 1.2 crore every year. If the new workforce is to be employed and its demographic benefits are to be reaped, the country needs to create 8 to 9 lakh jobs every year. Despite being among the world's fastest growing economies, India's employment growth rate has lagged behind output expansion. Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) are changing professional practices, leading to declining entry levels in many fields. Hence, concerns have been raised that economic growth is not fully aligned with job creation.
The initiative was announced by Harish Mehta, co-founder of software industry body Nasscom, founder of global entrepreneur network The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) A.J. Patel and Center for Innovation in Public Policy (CIPP) founder K. Done by Yatish Rajawat.
Hence, industry leaders launched a national initiative called “Hundred Million Jobs” on Monday. The main objective of this initiative is to create 10 crore new jobs in India in the next decade. The country is developing rapidly economically, but the employment problem still remains.
