
According to the US Secret Service, the suspect was attempting to breach security and illegally enter the Mar-a-Lago resort. The resort is located near Donald Trump's residence. Trump was not present at Mar-a-Lago at the time of the incident.
Secret Service officials said in a statement that agents acted during an attempted security breach, in which the suspect was shot and died at the scene. During the investigation, a shotgun and a canister full of fuel were recovered from the suspect. The identity of the deceased has not been released yet.
The Mar-a-Lago resort is considered Trump's “Winter White House” and security is tight here. So this incident is being considered as a serious breach of security.
After the incident, the FBI and local police have cordoned off the entire area. Currently, further investigation is being conducted in the entire matter.
A suspicious person appeared near the gate
According to a Secret Service statement, a suspect was seen trying to break into the security perimeter near the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago resort. The suspect was found to be in possession of a shotgun and a fuel canister. The situation turned tense as secret service agents tried to stop him and a shootout ensued. Meanwhile Secret Service agents and deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) were on the scene.
The FBI and Secret Service are investigating the incident
No Secret Service or police personnel were injured in the incident. At the time of the incident, there were no prominent persons or important personalities present. The FBI, Secret Service and local police are now jointly investigating the entire incident. The investigation is focusing on the identity of the suspect, his motive and whether the shooting by the police was justified.
