The Delhi High Court has held that the blacking out of several news channels by a cable operator in Andhra Pradesh was wrong. The High Court has ordered the cable operator to put the channel on air in Andhra Pradesh soon. The News Broadcasters Federation (NBF), a body of news channels, has welcomed and thanked the Delhi High Court's decision. NBF has also condemned Andhra's cable operator's decision.
NBDA has also termed the blackout decision of cable operators as wrong. After the decision of the Delhi High Court, TV9 Telugu and other news channels will reach the people of Andhra Pradesh.
Most preferred news channel
TV9 is the number one news channel in the Telugu state and the most preferred news channel on Big News Day. Ever since the cable operators blacked out, fans of TV9 Group have been constantly wanting to know why their favorite channel is not showing. Gradually, when this information reached the viewers, the cable operators of Andhra Pradesh stopped showing the channel as it was illegal. The Delhi High Court then announced its decision and ordered the channel to go on air soon, invalidating the Andhra Pradesh cable operator's decision.
A big step towards freedom of speech
News channel body NBF has expressed happiness over Delhi High Court's decision. NBF welcomes the decision in which the High Court ordered 15 multi-system operators in Andhra Pradesh to end the blackout of news channels including TV9 Telugu, Sakshi TV, 10TV and NTV News. This historic decision of the Delhi High Court is a big step in the direction of Freedom of Speech. On 6 June 2024, the blackout of 4 channels TV9 Telugu, Sakshi TV, 10TV and NTV News in Andhra Pradesh raised serious questions about press freedom.
'Blackouts are completely illegal'
The TV9 Group told the Delhi High Court that the blackout is illegal in its entirety and against the agreements entered into with the distribution companies as per TRAI rules. The News Broadcasters Federation believes that the Delhi High Court's decision has protected the freedom of the press and the rights of journalists. This decision of the court is a victory of democracy
