US Government, designated in China Government employees as well as family members and contractors with security have been banned from building any kind of romance or sexual relations with Chinese citizens. The International News Organization 'Associated Press' (AP) has received information on the ban.
Four people familiar with the matter, on the condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press about the policy, which was implemented in January before US Ambassador Nicholas Burns left China.
Some US agencies have already imposed stringent rules regarding such relationships. However, it is not uncommon for American diplomats to date, romance and even marry for American diplomats.
The policy implemented in a limited form last summer banned US employees from having “romantic and sexual relations” with Chinese citizens working in the US embassy in China and five consulate as guards and other support staff. Two people familiar with the ban told AP that the first discussion of the new policy was last summer. The representative house selection committee on China's Communist Party did not respond to a comment request.
The new policy includes the US diplomatic mission in China, which includes the embassy in Beijing and the consulate in Guangzhu, Shanghai, Shanyang and Wuhan, as well as the US consulate in Hong Kong. This ban does not apply to US employees deployed outside China.
