My contributions to educational resources, including books and training programs, elevate industry standards and empower aspiring engineers.
          • Industry Leader & Innovator – I push the boundaries of music and live production in Africa, helping to shape industry standards. As a pioneer in the field, I continuously innovate and influence how sound is produced, managed, and experienced. By blending technical expertise with artistic sensibility, I strive to elevate the industry and drive its evolution.

          2. Please tell us a bit about your musical background. How did you get started in the music industry? What was your pathway to your current role?

          Ans :

From a young age, I was naturally drawn to music and sound. My passion for music began when I was just nine years old, serving as the children’s choirmaster at my local church. I was responsible for arranging vocal harmonies—Soprano, Alto, and Tenor—and I could identify, sing, and teach these parts while also playing drums and keyboards.

After each church service, I would record our performance on a cassette tape and listen back, analyzing what was missing. Sometimes the kick drum was too weak, the bass was too low, or a vocal part wasn’t present in the mix. Wanting to fix these issues, I would gather the choir and musicians after service and play back the recording on a dual-deck cassette recorder. Using one deck to play the original recording and the other to overdub missing elements.

I’d start by adding the kick drum and recording it onto the new tape. Then, if the bass was weak, I’d go back, play the bass on the keyboard, and overdub that as well. If the choir’s harmonies were lacking, I’d guide them to sing louder and record it again. I kept swapping tapes and layering sounds, trying to make everything sound fuller and more balanced.

However, I quickly realized the limitations of tape recording. Each overdub degraded the sound quality, causing high frequencies to be lost and overall clarity to diminish. But despite these challenges, my joy came from hearing the final mix with all the missing elements in place. This hands-on experimentation ignited my passion for sound engineering and music production, pushing me to seek better technology and more innovative ways to bring my creative vision to life.

Looking back, this early experience shaped my passion for sound engineering and music production. It made me eager to explore advanced audio techniques and cutting-edge tools to achieve the best possible sound quality. That’s why, for me, technology and innovation are essential—they remain at the heart of everything I do, allowing me to push creative boundaries and continuously refine my craft.

          Professional Growth and Achievements

My journey into the music industry was driven by a deep passion for sound. I started by working on small projects, mastering the intricacies of audio engineering, mixing, and production. Over the years, I gained extensive hands- on experience in both studio and live sound, collaborating with artists and managing major event productions.

With over 30 years in the industry, I have been instrumental in building and acoustically designing hundreds of studios. My commitment to excellence, versatility, and continuous innovation has earned me numerous national and international awards, including:

          3. What or who inspired you to follow this path?

          Ans :

From an early age, I was deeply moved by the power of sound and music. I was fascinated by how a well-produced track or an expertly mixed live event could stir emotions, create unforgettable moments, and even shape cultural experiences. This realization ignited my passion for mastering the art of audio engineering and music production.

Meeting Dr. Tunji Dada was a pivotal moment in my journey. At the time, I was already involved in music direction, playing instruments, and contributing to live productions. Our paths first crossed at an event where I served as his assistant director. Impressed by his expertise, I approached him and expressed my desire to learn music production under his guidance. He agreed to mentor me, and in hindsight, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. His mentorship has been instrumental in refining my skills and deepening my understanding of the craft.

I have always been fascinated by the intricate details of crafting the perfect sound and how subtle changes in frequency balance, dynamics, and spatial placement can completely transform a musical piece or live performance. My journey has been shaped by relentless curiosity and a drive to push the boundaries of what is possible in audio. I continuously seek new techniques, embrace emerging technologies, and refine my craft to ensure every project I work on meets the highest standards.

Beyond the technical aspects, I draw inspiration from pioneers in sound engineering and production—visionaries who revolutionized the industry with groundbreaking innovations. Their ability to blend technical expertise with artistic creativity has motivated me to do the same, always striving for excellence in every aspect of my work.

At the core of my dedication is a simple yet powerful belief: sound is more than just an element of music—it is an experience. Whether in a studio, a concert hall, or a massive outdoor festival, my goal is to create immersive sonic environments that leave a lasting impression. This relentless pursuit of quality and innovation drives me every day, ensuring that every note, beat, and mix I work on is nothing short of exceptional.

          4. Are there any highlights from your work that you are particularly proud of?

          Ans :

Absolutely. Throughout my career, I have been privileged to work on several groundbreaking projects, but a few stand out as defining moments.

One of the most remarkable experiences was serving as the sound engineer and event coordinator for Grammy Award-winning artist Tems’ concert in Abuja, Nigeria. This event was an unforgettable moment, not just for the audience but for me as well. Tems delivered an electrifying performance, seamlessly blending her biggest hits into a flawless musical experience. The energy from the crowd was unmatched, and ensuring that her vocals and instrumentation were perfectly balanced and immersive was both a challenge and a privilege. In addition to the concert, I was also involved in the NPR Tiny Desk recording for Tems with my team, which was another exciting project. The raw, intimate nature of the Tiny Desk setup required a different level of precision in sound engineering, ensuring her vocals and instrumentation were captured with the utmost clarity.

Beyond mainstream music, my work in gospel music production has also been deeply fulfilling. One of the most impactful projects I have been a part of is the Hallelujah Festival by Pastor Nathaniel Bassey. Holds twice a year, this event gathers thousands of worshippers in person and millions of viewers worldwide, creating a transformative atmosphere of prayer, worship and praise that transcends borders. The testimonies that have emerged from this event are truly remarkable. Each festival is a profound experience, and leading the production team that brings this vision to life has been a great honor.

I am also proud to have spearheaded the production of the Fearless Concert with Dr. Tim Godfrey since its inception in 2016. Over the years, this concert has evolved into one of the biggest gospel music gatherings in Africa, featuring legendary artists such as Kirk Franklin, Travis Greene, Israel Houghton, Marvin Sapp, Sinach, Nathaniel Bassey, Phil Thompson, Frank Edwards, and Onos Ariyo, among others. A defining moment in this journey was the release of “Nara” by Dr. Tim Godfrey featuring Travis Greene in 2018. The song, birthed from the Fearless Concert, went on to garner over 816 million streams on Spotify and 144 million views on YouTube, making a significant global impact.

Another career highlight has been my work on The Experience, the largest gospel concerts in the world, organized by House on the Rock Church under the leadership of Pastor Paul and Pastor Ifeanyi Adefarasin. Every year, this event draws over 500,000 worshippers on-site and millions more online for an unparalleled night of worship and praise. I have had the privilege of working with iconic gospel artists such as Travis Greene, Ada Ehi, Chevelle Franklyn, Midnight Crew, and Dr. Tim Godfrey. The magnitude of this event and its profound impact on people’s lives make it one of my most fulfilling accomplishments.

Additionally, I have had the pleasure of producing BJ Sax Live, a concert series that has been held annually since 2016. The 2024 edition, hosted at Indigo at The O2 in London, marked a new milestone for the brand’s international expansion. This event continues to redefine gospel concerts, and leading its production has been an incredibly enriching experience.

Beyond live event production, I am deeply passionate about mentoring and nurturing the next generation of artists and sound engineers. I have had the privilege of leading masterclass sessions at SAE London for sound engineering and music production students, as well as guiding talented artists like Franca Johnson, Yetunde Omo Ibadan, and Adetoun. Their achievements, including participation in the MTN Project Fame West Africa competition, are a testament to the impact of mentorship. Witnessing their growth and success reaffirms my commitment to investing in future talent and shaping the next wave of industry professionals.

These experiences are a testament to my dedication to sound engineering, music production, and live event coordination. Whether it’s crafting a flawless sonic experience for an international artist, producing a transformative worship event, or mentoring the next generation, my goal remains the same—to push the boundaries of audio excellence and leave a lasting impact on both artists and audiences.

          5. What’s one tip you can share with other MPG members that could help their workflow?

          Ans :

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in my career is the importance of striving for excellence in every aspect of production. Whether working in the studio or handling live sound, committing to high-quality output ensures that every project meets and exceeds industry standards.

A key tip that has greatly improved my workflow—and can help others as well— is to always prioritize clarity and balance in your mixes. Every element in a mix or live sound setup should have its own space, allowing each instrument and vocal to shine without competing for attention. Achieving this requires a deep understanding of frequency balance, dynamic control, and spatial placement. A well-balanced mix not only sounds professional but also enhances the emotional impact of the music.

Another crucial practice is training your ears continuously. Critical listening is one of the most powerful skills an audio professional can develop, and it’s something I prioritize daily. I make it a habit to listen analytically, breaking down how different elements interact in well-produced songs or live performances.

Whether it’s identifying subtle frequency clashes, fine-tuning reverb tails, or ensuring that a vocal sits perfectly in a mix, having well-trained ears can make all the difference.

Lastly, never stop learning. The world of audio production is constantly evolving, with new technologies, techniques, and tools emerging regularly. Staying updated and open to innovation is key to staying ahead in this industry. By committing to excellence, refining critical listening skills, and embracing continuous learning, we can all push the boundaries of what’s possible in music production.

          6. What’s one tip you would like an MPG member to share with you? (learning/growth from others)

          Ans :

I firmly believe that growth in the music production industry comes from continuous learning and collaboration. No matter how much experience one has, there is always something new to discover—whether it’s a fresh approach to mixing, an innovative production technique, or a breakthrough in live sound technology.

I would love to hear from fellow MPG members about their most effective workflow strategies for achieving efficiency without compromising quality. In such a fast-paced industry, finding ways to streamline production processes while maintaining high standards is essential. Are there specific techniques, tools, or habits that have transformed the way they work?

Additionally, I’m always interested in new approaches to integrating emerging audio technologies into both studio and live production. From advancements in immersive sound formats to AI-assisted mixing and mastering, I believe the future of audio lies in innovation. Learning how others are adapting to these changes could provide valuable insights into how I can refine my own techniques and push the boundaries of sound engineering.

Ultimately, I see every conversation and shared experience as an opportunity to grow. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing not only elevate individual careers but also strengthen the industry as a whole.

          7. Do you have any words of wisdom for people wanting to get into a similar music production role to yours?

          Ans :

For anyone looking to build a career in music production and sound engineering, I have learned that success comes from a combination of technical expertise, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. This industry is constantly evolving, and staying ahead requires both skill and passion. Here are a few key insights I would share with aspiring professionals:
