
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared a total of 22 universities in India as fake. In such a situation, the youth have to think about taking admission now. The commission has also expressed concern over an unrecognized institution, which falsely claims to be a legitimate engineering college. Notably, Delhi has the largest number of such institutions.
Degree invalid
The UGC has released a list of 22 institutions, which claim to be legitimate universities and offer admission. However, all these universities are working against UGC norms. Candidates should note that any degree obtained from these institutions is invalid.
According to the UGC's state-wise list of bogus institutions, there are 10 such universities in Delhi. Uttar Pradesh has four, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and West Bengal with two each. Apart from this, Maharashtra and Puducherry have one each.
According to the information, two institutions have been found to be fake in Andhra Pradesh:
- Christ New Testament Deemed University, which is found to be functioning at two different locations in Guntur.
- 'Bible Open University of India', located in NGO Colony, Visakhapatnam.
Delhi
Delhi has the highest number of fake universities. Here are total 10 institutes which are not recognized by UGC.
- All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences (AIIPHS State Government University).
- Commercial University Limited, Daryaganj.
- United Nations University.
- Vocational University.
- ADR-Centric Juridical University, ADR House
- Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, New Delhi.
- Vishwakarma Self Employment Open University.
- Theological University, Rohini.
- World Peace United Nations University (WPUNU), Pitampura.
- Institute of Management and Engineering, Kotla Mubarakpur.
Many of these institutions mislead students by using words like “university,” “United Nations,” or “state government” in their names.
Kerala
Two institutions have been declared fake in Kerala.
- International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine (IIUPM), Kozhikode
- St. John's University, Kishanattam
Maharashtra
Only one fake university has been identified in Maharashtra, Raja Arabic University, located in Nagpur.
Puducherry
Sri Bodhi Academy of Higher Education in Puducherry has been declared fake by UGC. It is located at Thilaspet of Vazhutavur Road and was offering unofficial courses in the name of higher education.
Uttar Pradesh
A total of four fake universities have been listed in Uttar Pradesh:
- Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth, Prayagraj
- Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Open University, Aligarh
- Education Council of India, Lucknow
- Mahamaya Technical University, Noida
These institutes offer degree and diploma courses to students but none are authorized by the UGC.
West Bengal
West Bengal also has two fake institutes:
- Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata
- Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Thakurpukur, Kolkata
Warning for students
The UGC has warned all students to check the accreditation of any university or institute before taking admission there. A degree obtained from a fake university has no academic value.
