People usually take a DNA test to find out about their ancestors or family, but have you ever heard of someone doing a dog DNA test? A woman named Kathleen Sheehan, who lives in Michigan, USA, did something similar and the result has created a stir on social media.
Curiosity became the cause of wonder
Kathleen adopted a rescue dog named 'Dottie' from the local humane society. Dottie was very playful and looked like a terrier breed dog. Kathleen had also previously had her old pet dog DNA tested, so she decided to have Dottie tested as well, just out of curiosity. He had thought that the report would include the terrier breed, but the truth was something different.
There is a big revelation in the report
Both Kathleen and social media users were shocked when the DNA report came out. According to the report, Dottie was not a single breed but a mixture of several breeds:
- 55% Doberman Pinscher
- 10% Pomeranian
- 6% Pekingese
- 6% Poodle
- 16% Yorkshire Terrier
The most surprising thing was that 55 percent of the dotties were Dobermans. In appearance, the Dotty was nowhere near as powerful or tall as a Doberman.

Discussion on social media
When Kathleen shared this report on Reddit, people gave mixed reactions. Many wrote, “Can't believe a dog this small can be half Doberman!” This case shows that sometimes the outward appearance of pets can be quite different from their true genetic identity.
