The English national anthem changes and a cover of the legendary icon song of the Sex Pistol is also released by italian band BATCAVERNA.
With the accession to the throne of King Charles III and the replacement of the queen as an ‘icon’ on symbols, seals and effigies, such as banknotes, coins, passports, postage stamps, mailboxes, official Buckingham Palace documents, police helmets, etc., even the famous national anthem “God Save the Queen”, as it had been for the last seventy years of reign, has become “God Save the King”.
But “God Save The Queen” is also the title of the iconic anthem song by SEX PISTOL, an English punk group of the seventies, and which apparently did not escape the change.
A group of Italians thought of it, a band, recently on the indie scene, the BATCAVERNA, which move between rockabilly, psychobilly, surf and trash and defined irreverent, ironic, poetic and demented,
With a video shot on a boat in the waters of the Lake of Villa Borghese in Rome (the Sex Pistols performed the song live aboard a boat on the Thames), the cover song “GOD SAVE THE KING“, is a fast-paced and a less angry, more mocking sound.
And who knows what John Lyndon (Johnny Rotten), who had already criticized, detaching himself from it, any commercial exploitation of “God Save The Queen” after the death of Elizabeth II will say.
In the indie scene BATCAVERNA have been defined: “irreverent, funny, poetic, zany, a fusion of punk, rockabilly, electronic, blues, trash, in a grotesque and colorful mix”.
Their music stems from the purest rock and roll / rockabilly influences, precipitated – it should be said – in psychobilly, for the alienating and psychedelic lyrics and sound and with a hillbilly look for the rustic and genuine aspect.
