MEGHAN Markle was once rejected for a date with a top England football star before meeting Prince Harry, a pal has claimed.
Radio presenter Lizzie Cundy, 53, has long claimed she tried to set the future Duchess up with an “English boyfriend” during a charity event in 2013.
The story that has circulated over the years is that ex Chelsea left back Ashley Cole was pursuing Meghan for a date but that she wasn’t interested after being warned about his past by friends.
Now seven-years-on Lizzie Cundy has claimed it was actually the other way around and that she tried to set-up Meghan and Ashley, only for the former England star to reject the future royal himself.
Speaking to Grazia, she shared: “Meghan said she loved London, and would love an English boyfriend, so I went through my phone to see who I knew that might be a good fit.
“I tried to find her a boyfriend – Ashley Cole wasn’t so keen – but I did try to fix her up, which is funny looking back.”
