A FOODIE has split opinion after revealing she’s worked out what a Club sandwich stands for at the age of 46.
The Club sandwich is one the most famous in the world.
Jennifer thought she’d worked it out[/caption]
A Club sandwich is usually made with bacon, ham, turkey, cheese, lettuce and tomato on toasted bread[/caption]
It’s typically filled with sliced cooked poultry, fried bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.
It is often cut into quarters or halves and held together by cocktail sticks.
Despite originally being popular in the US, it’s a pub staple in the UK too.
But one woman thinks she’s discovered what the name of the sandwich stands for – and it soon sparked debate online.
TikTok user Jennifer Welshans claimed each letter stands for a key ingredient during a recent video.
She shared: “No way am I 46 and I’ve just found out that a CLUB sandwich stands for chicken and lettuce under bacon.”
Her followers were stunned and viewers below commented with their ages to share their disbelief that they’d just found out.
One wrote: “You and me both, I’m going to stick with the prawn.”
“I’m not even a member … and they still let me buy them!” said another.
Someone else added: “Ugh, that’s one of my favourites and now I know too. Wow.”
However, she was quickly corrected by others in the comments who explained the correct origination of the name.
A TikTok user wrote: “It doesn’t, that’s just coincidental. Its origin is in a golf clubhouse. Hence the name.”
Another echoed: “I thought it was invented at a ‘Country Club’.”

The exact origins of the club sandwich are unknown and still up for debate in some sources.
It’s thought to have originated at the Union Club of New York City.
The earliest known reference to the sandwich, an article that appeared in The Evening World on November 18, 1889.
However, she was proved incorrect despite her great theory[/caption]
It gave an early recipe: “Have you tried a Union Club sandwich yet? Two toasted pieces of Graham bread, with a layer of turkey or chicken and ham between them, served warm.”
Another theory is that the club sandwich was invented at the Saratoga Club in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1894.
