Team India fans never thought that the Indian cricket team would fare so badly in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Now the Indian team cannot win the ODI series, but now the situation has come to lose the series.
This is the condition of the Indian team after losing the second ODI match in Colombo. The first match was a tie and the host team won the second match, meaning now Team India has to win the third match at any cost to save the series. But now this is not so easy and it is because of Gautham Gambhir's strategy which has been heavy in this series.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir's biggest mistake in the ODI series was tampering with the batting order of Team India. As for the second ODI, Gautam Gambhir sent Shivam Dubey at No. 4, after which he brought in Axar Patel and the likes of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul came in to bat at No. 6 and 7.
Even in the first ODI, Gautam Gambhir did not tamper with the batting order of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli but then dropped Washington Sundar at number four. Due to which Iyer and KL Rahul slipped down the batting order. Clearly, this has hurt Team India. Now it remains to be seen what is the strategy of Team India in the last ODI match.
The Indian team is in danger of losing the ODI series in Sri Lanka after 27 years. India last lost an ODI series against Sri Lanka in 1997. The team led by Arjun Ranatunga defeated Sachin Tendulkar's Indian team in all three matches. Since then, 11 ODI series have been played between India and Sri Lanka and the Indian team has won all of them.
