Indian athlete Kapil Parmar created history by winning a bronze medal in judo at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Kapil defeated the Brazilian in just 33 seconds to win the bronze medal. With this he became the first Indian in Paralympic history to win a medal in Judo. This is India's 25th medal and with this India has achieved the medal target in the Paris Games. Kapil achieved this feat by defeating Eliolton D'Oliveira of Brazil 10-0. This is India's 11th bronze medal in Paralympics 2024.
Kapil became the first Indian to win a medal in Judo
Kapil won this bronze medal in men's 60 kg J1 category. Kapil's eyesight gradually began to deteriorate due to an electric shock as a child, the effects of which are still felt in his life. In such condition, despite extremely poor vision, Kapil prepared himself for the Paralympics and today this historic success is in his lap.
Made history in just 33 seconds
Kapil, ranked world No. 1 in his category, booked his place in the semi-finals on Thursday, August 5, defeating Venezuela's Marcos Blanco 10–0 in his quarter-final match. Here, Kapil hoped to reach the finals but had to face defeat against the Iranian athlete. Iranian judoka Banitaba Khoram defeated Kapil 10-0 in the semi-finals. In such a situation, Kapil's last option for a medal was the bronze medal match and this time he seized the opportunity and won the medal in just 33 seconds.

Kapil's major career achievements
Kapil's achievement is special in many ways. Kapil made his judo debut in 2017, becoming the first blind judoka from India to qualify for the Paralympics. He didn't just stop at this achievement, but returned with a medal. Earlier, Kapil had also won a silver medal in the Para Asian Games held in Hangzhou last year. In the same year, he won a gold medal at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix in Alexandria and then a bronze medal at the World Championships.
