Fast bowler Varun Aaron, who has played for Team India, took to social media on Friday, January 10, to announce his decision. 35-year-old Aaron played 9 Tests and 9 ODIs for India. Varun Aaron retired from the red ball after the 2023-24 domestic season. Now he has said goodbye to cricket from all formats. This decision of Varun Aaron has come after his team got out.
Varun Aaron used to play for Jharkhand in domestic cricket. His team has been eliminated from the group stage in the domestic one-day tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Jharkhand team was in Group A and finished third in the points table after winning 4 out of 7 matches and did not qualify for the knock out matches. Aaron took 3 wickets in 4 matches of this tournament at an average of 53.33.
Varun Aaron has shared a post on social media regarding his retirement. He said, 'For the last 20 years I have lived and breathed fast bowling. Today I am officially retiring from cricket. Today I am saying goodbye to something that I have always loved. Now I want to move on to the small joys of life. However, I will always be attached to this game. Fast bowling has been my first love, although I am moving away from the field now. But it will always be a part of my life.
Varun Aaron made his domestic cricket debut in 2008 in a first-class match. In the year 2011, he made his ODI and Test debut for India. He played only 9 Tests for Team India, taking 18 wickets at an average of 52.61. He took 11 wickets in 9 ODI matches at an average of 38.09. Aaron took 173 wickets in 66 first-class matches, 141 wickets in 88 List A matches and 93 wickets in 95 T20 matches.
