The Group A match between Pakistan and the UAE in the Asia Cup 2025 did not start in time. Following a dispute with the ICC over the match referee Andy Picroft, the Pakistan Cricket Board requested the tournament organizers to be delayed an hour, resulting in the match did not start at its scheduled time (according to Indian time at 8 pm). Due to the demand for removal of the referee, the Pakistani team stayed in their hotel for a long time and finally left for Dubai International Stadium after 7pm.
Did you decide to move from the Asia Cup?
The match between Pakistan and the UAE was surrounded by a crisis from the beginning, as the PCB demanded the removal of the referee Andy Piccharoft. After the ICC rejected their demands, the Pakistani media claimed that the PCB had decided to boycott the match against the UAE and move from the Asia Cup. However, the PCB later stated that it was working to resolve the issue with the ICC and, therefore, demanded an hour to start the match instead of boycotting.
Disputes started with Indo-Pakistan match
The controversy began after the captain and players refused to join hands during the match against India on September 14. The Pakistan Board claimed that Referee Pycroft instructed Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistani captain Salman Ali not to join the toss. The PCB lodged a complaint with the ICC, in which the referee accused the misconduct and demanded that they be removed from the Asia Cup. The Pakistan Board also threatened to boycott the tournament, including a match against the UAE if their demands were not met.
Demand for Pakistan was rejected
However, the ICC rejected the demand, and since then, it has been on whether all of the eyes of Pakistan will survive its threat. After this, a PCB meeting was held in Dubai on Tuesday, September 16, in which the Emirates Cricket Board also tried to mediate. After this, reports came out that a middle road had reached, in which the Picroft has been removed from the match of Pakistan and Richie Richardson has been appointed as a referee. However, on Wednesday, the PCB emailed the ICC a second time and repeated its demands. After this, another meeting was held in the ICC, and this time the PCB demands were rejected.
