Team India, playing the first ODI after Champions Trophy 2025, faced defeat against Australia. During this match, the fast bowler of the host team, Mitchell Starc, created chaos. He bowled Rohit Sharma at 176.5 kmph. However, the matter was settled later when the facts came out.

In the first ODI played in Perth, Team India came out to bat first. Rohit Sharma faces Mitchell Starc's first ball. Rohit took a run on this ball but social media was abuzz when it appeared that Mitchell Starc was bowling at 176.5 kmph in the speed gun.
Starc's very first delivery showed 176.5 km/h (109 mph) on the speed gun — everyone was shocked!
Later it turned out to be a broadcast error — the actual speed was 140.8 km/h (87 mph). #AUSvIND #ICC #Cricket #Fans pic.twitter.com/2YS1YqWkB4— Real Khattak (@FaizanUmer50457) October 19, 2025
However, no official statement from the ICC or Cricket Australia confirmed that Starc had bowled at that speed. This was probably a technical error, as Cricbuzz reported that his actual speed was around 140.8 kmph. Then many people tweeted on social media and said that the record of fastest bowling is held by former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.
Mitchell Starc has yet to break a world record
Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar bowled at a speed of 161.3 km per hour in an ODI against England in the year 2003. Mitchell Starc is yet to break his world record, as he bowled his first ball at around 140.8 kmph.
