Young fast bowler Xavier Bartlett and Zampa played a key role in Australia's victory. Both the bowlers had thrown the Indian batting into disarray by losing 3 and 4 wickets respectively. India got off to a poor start, with captain Gill getting out for 9 runs. Kohli too could not open the account and was dismissed for nil. For the first time in his career, he was dismissed for two consecutive ODIs for zero runs. However, Rohit and Iyer took Team India to a respectable score. Rohit scored 73 runs and Iyer scored 61 runs. Akshar Patel scored 44 runs in the end and Team India scored 264 runs.

Australia team got off to a poor start in the chase, Mitchell Marsh was dismissed for 11 runs. Travis Head also played an innings of 28 runs but Matthew Short scored 74 runs off 78 balls to make Australia's comeback.
Matthew Renshaw scored 30 runs, while Alex Carey was dismissed for 9 runs. In the end youngster Cooper Connolly scored an unbeaten half-century and Mitchell Owen scored a quick 36 off 23 balls to give Australia victory. The third ODI will be played in Sydney on October 25. Now Team India's aim will be to avoid a clean sweep.
