Retained a 39-year-old record
The final match of the ODI series was played in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, December 6. The series was already tied 1-1, and Team India was facing a 39-year-old threat. In 1986–87, Pakistan toured India and defeated Team India in both Test and ODI series. Since then, Team India has never lost both series at home against the same team. The streak was in danger of being broken in Visakhapatnam, but a strong performance and a bit of luck saved Team India from losing two series at home.
Africa all out for 270 runs
After losing the toss in 20 consecutive ODIs, India chose to bowl first after winning the toss, and then the bowlers performed brilliantly. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Ryan Rickelton in the first over, but then Quinton de Kock started the onslaught and scored his 23rd century. However, after an early thrashing, the prolific Krishna bounced back with two wickets in the 29th over and then dismissed de Kock in the 33rd over. From there, wickets fell and Kuldeep Yadav played a key role in this. Kuldeep took two wickets in the 39th over and then two more to restrict South Africa to 270 runs.
Yashaswi Jaiswal's mighty century
Then Rohit Sharma and Yashaswi Jaiswal put on a brilliant partnership for Team India. He started slowly, but gradually picked up the pace, putting on a huge partnership of 155 runs in 25.5 overs that almost decided the outcome of the match. While Rohit (75 runs, 73 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes) could not convert his strong innings into a century, Jaiswal overcame his first two match failures to score his maiden ODI century.
Rohit-Virat's fifty
Virat Kohli, who came to the crease after Rohit's dismissal, continued his strong form and scored a quick half-century. He and Jaiswal put on a 116-run partnership in just 39.5 overs to win the match and the series. Kohli scored an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes), while Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 116 off 121 balls (12 fours, 2 sixes).
