EPFO has taken a big decision regarding Aadhaar card. Now Aadhaar card will not be valid for update or correction of date of birth. This means that EPFO will no longer use Aadhaar card for this purpose. EPFO has excluded it from the list of valid documents i.e. acceptable documents. The Employees Provident Fund Association has also issued a circular in this regard.
Circular issued
EPFO, which comes under the Ministry of Labour, took this decision and said that date of birth can no longer be changed using Aadhaar. EPFO has recently issued a circular informing about this. According to this a letter has also been received from UIDAI. It is stated that Aadhaar card will not be valid for change in date of birth. It should be removed from the list of valid documents. So a decision has been taken to remove Aadhaar.
These documents will be required
According to EPFO this change can be done with the help of birth certificate. Apart from this mark sheet and school leaving certificate or school transfer certificate obtained from any government board or university can also be used for this purpose. Apart from this, medical certificate issued by civil surgeon, passport, pan number, government pension and mediclaim certificate and domicile certificate can be used.
For what purpose will Aadhaar be used?
UIDAI has said that Aadhaar card should be used as identity card and residence certificate. But, it should not be used as a birth certificate. Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique identity card. It is issued by the Government of India. It is valid throughout the country as proof of your identity and permanent residence. However, while creating Aadhaar, people entered their date of birth according to various documents. So it should not be considered as a substitute for birth certificate.
