An idol of Lord Rama is kept in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in Ayodhya. The idol of ‘Ram Lalla’ has been created by Mysore based sculptor Arun Yogiraj. The statue is 51 inches tall and weighs 1.5 tons. The idol depicts Lord Rama as a five-year-old child standing on a lotus made of a single stone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform religious ceremonies to commemorate ‘Pran Pratishtha’. A team of priests led by Laxmikant Dixit will conduct the main ceremony. Many personalities and celebrities have also been invited in this function.
Mauritius declared a special holiday
Earlier on January 15, High Commissioner of Mauritius to India Hammondoyle announced the grand plans of the Mauritian community to participate in the Dilam spiritual programme. The people of this island nation are united in celebrating the spiritual landmark in Ayodhya. They are preparing to light one lamp each in all the temples in Mauritius and chants from the ‘Ramayana Path’ will echo in the corridors of these temples, creating an atmosphere of devotion and cultural celebration.
Mauritius High Commissioner Dilam said, “Mauritius has many temples and on that day ‘diya’ will be lit in all the temples and Ramayana will be recited. Dilam also said that underlining the collective commitment to honor Lord Rama’s presence, the Prana Pratistha ceremony will be celebrated simultaneously in all the temples.
Highlighting the deep connection between Mauritius and Lord Rama, High Commissioner Dilam said that the Government of Mauritius has granted special leave to officials for the inauguration ceremony. “Mauritius has a large number of Ram followers. There was a strong request from various socio-cultural institutions and organizations to attend the Pran Pratistha on January 22.
