The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service has been officially inaugurated at the iconic Eiffel Tower in France during the Republic Day celebrations. The Indian Mission in France shared this information on social media platform X and wrote that the initiative is a step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to take UPI global.
With this, tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris will now be able to easily book their tickets through India’s UPI. National Payments Corporation of India’s international subsidiary NPCI International Payments (NIPL), has partnered with French e-commerce and payments platform Lyra to enable acceptance of UPI payments in France, starting with the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower will be able to purchase tickets through UPI
At an event organized by the Indian Embassy in France to celebrate India’s Republic Day, NPCI announced that Indian tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower will now be able to purchase tickets online using the UPI payment system. This initiative is designed to simplify the transaction process.
The President of France was the Chief Guest on Republic Day
It is worth mentioning that during the 75th Republic Day celebrations, French President Emmanuel Macron was the chief guest and PM Narendra Modi gave him a warm welcome in Jaipur. On this occasion, PM Modi impressed the French President by using UPI for payment.
