Now there is a big news on Indian cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who returned with a century in Test cricket. The news is about his future in the Indian Premier League, where he is currently the captain of the Delhi Capitals. However, since last season, there have been constant speculations and rumors about his continuation with the franchise, but now it seems to be coming to an end.
Delhi Capitals retained Pant
A report has claimed that Delhi Capitals have decided to retain Pant in the team for the next season as well. Not only this, Pant's salary is also likely to increase in IPL. The news came on the same day Pant scored a brilliant century against Bangladesh in the Chennai Test.
Ending speculation of Pant leaving Delhi
Cricbuzz reported in a report that Delhi Capitals, a franchise owned by GMR Sports and JSW Sports, have decided to keep Pant as part of the squad. The report says that like in the previous mega auction, the franchise wants to retain Rishabh Pant as the number-one retained player, who gets the highest salary. With this news, speculations about Pant leaving Delhi Capitals ahead of next season have ended. A few weeks ago, reports claimed that Pant could move to Chennai Super Kings next season and Delhi could sign Rohit Sharma as the new captain.
Pant's interview with franchise owner
According to the report, Pant met Delhi Capitals co-owner and JSW Sports owner Parth Jindal a few days ago, who is often seen at the stadium during the team's matches. In this meeting, Jindal told Pant about his and the franchisee's wishes and here both agreed on the decision.
Part of Delhi Capitals since 2016
Pant made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals in 2016 and has been a part of the franchise ever since. He was then handed over the reins of the team in 2021 after Shreyas Iyer's injury and has been the captain ever since. He missed the 2023 season due to a road accident but made a comeback from the IPL in 2024 and was also the captain of Delhi.
