A Chinese female official was accused of having sexual relations with 58 juniors of her staff, being involved in corruption and accepting large bribes. Now the officer has been sentenced to 13 years in prison in this case. Apart from this, a fine of around 1 crore rupees has also been imposed. A documentary has also been released this year on a controversial issue involving women officers.
According to the report of the Chinese news agency South China Morning Post, the name of the convicted female officer is Zhong Yang. Age 52 years. She has served as the Governor and Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China in Qiannan, Guizhou. Zhong Yang joined the party from the age of 22. In April 2023, he was arrested in connection with various charges. He was subsequently removed from his post in the party and expelled in September of the same year.
Awarded large contracts for work to selected companies only
In January this year, Guizhou Radio and Television made a documentary on the case. It brought to light many controversies involving Zhong Yang. Reports have surfaced that Zhong abused his position and took bribes. Under the guise of government investment, he awarded large contracts for work to only select firms. It also allowed the development of a hi-tech industrial estate for industrialists nearby.
Another business owner in the documentary claimed that Zhong doesn't pay attention to companies she doesn't have a personal relationship with. The documentary states that in 2023, the Guizhou Provincial Disciplinary Inspection and Supervision Committee announced that Zhong was suspected of serious disciplinary and legal violations. According to the report, Zhong took 60 million yuan (about Rs 70 crore) as bribe.
Some were afraid of Zhong and had a relationship with him
A case of Zhong having physical relations with 58 of her male juniors also came to light. The investigation revealed that some of them entered into relations with Zhong out of fear of him, while others did so out of fear of him. According to a report by NetEase News, Zhong used to spend time with these people under the pretext of working overtime and going on business tours.
Zhong's statement on the whole matter has also been included in the documentary. She says she regrets her action and is extremely ashamed.
