The interest of players in the T20 league has been increasing in the cricket world for some time now. Playing more and more T20 leagues has led many star players to opt out of central contracts offered by their cricket boards. Recently, a number of New Zealand players have opted out of central contracts, including the likes of Kane Williamson, Devon Conway and Finn Allen. Now an important South African player has also decided to leave the central contract, leaving everyone shocked.
Tabrez Shamsi left the central contract
South African left-arm spinner Tabrez Shamsi has decided to opt out of his central contract with Cricket South Africa with immediate effect. This means that he can now play in T20 leagues around the world without any ban. However, he will also be available to play for South Africa and see games in major tournaments.
Will always be available to play for country: Shamsi
Talking about his decision, Tabrez Shamsi said, 'I have decided to opt out of my central contract to have more flexibility during the domestic season, which will allow me to explore all available opportunities and take care of my family. This will in no way affect my ability or motivation to play for Africa and I will always be available to play for my country whenever I am needed. It has always been my dream to bring the World Cup to South Africa and no franchise league is more important than playing for my country.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Proteas Men's spinner Tabraiz Shamsi have today jointly announced that the 34-year-old has decided to opt out of his national contract, effective immediately.

Decision taken due to CSA's interference
Tabrez Shamsi is believed to have taken this decision because of Cricket South Africa's interference in the T20 league. In fact, Cricket South Africa pulled him out of the PSL in Pakistan earlier this year so that he could play for the Titans in the CSA T20 Challenge, Africa's domestic T20 competition. Due to this decision, Shamsi could only play 4 matches for Karachi Kings and forfeited his match fee for the remaining six matches. Something similar was seen recently during the CPL as well. He had to miss some CPL matches due to attending the CSA award ceremony. During this period he also had to forfeit match fees for some matches.
