After a crushing defeat against New Zealand and a win against Pakistan, Team India finally got their second win in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. In their third match of the group stage against the Asian champions Sri Lanka, the Indian team won by a huge margin of 82 runs.
Team India's second win in the tournament
After brilliant half-centuries from captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, a lethal performance by bowlers including Arundhati Reddy and Renuka Singh led Team India to their second win of the tournament. Along with this, the Indian team has strengthened their hopes of reaching the semi-finals by registering another victory. Team India will now face defending champions Australia, who are currently at the top of the points table, in their last group match.
Indian fielders did a great job
In this Group A match played in Dubai on Wednesday, October 9, Team India proved to be the best on every front, the most important of which was the fielding. In the last 2 matches India faced disappointment in fielding and missed some very easy catches but this time the Indian fielders were catching the ball with a changed attitude. Renuka Singh, Richa Ghosh and Radha Yadav took brilliant catches. Team India did not waste a single chance to catch in this match. Based on that, Team India avenged the loss against Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup a few months ago.

Fifty of Harmanpreet-Smriti
Team India chose to bat first in this match and eventually their opening pair did the job. Although Smriti Mandhana once again struggled early on, once her eyes settled, she rained boundaries. While Shefali Verma got off to a fast start but then his bat slowed down a bit. However, the duo put on a brilliant partnership of 98 runs in just 12.4 overs. Smriti was dismissed for 50 and was followed by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who kept up the rhythm of the previous match but looked more explosive this time. Harmanpreet scored 52 off just 27 balls, the fastest half-century for India in T20 World Cup history. While Shefali scored 43 runs. In this way, Team India scored 172 runs by losing 3 wickets.
Strong bowling from Indian bowlers
India's first target was to register a win and for that it was very important to win by a big margin. Team India has achieved success on both fronts. From the start, the Indian bowlers dominated the Sri Lankan batsmen. Renuka Singh dismissed opener Vishmi Gunaratne in the first over while Shreyanka Patil gave the biggest blow in the second over. He took the wicket of veteran Sri Lankan captain Chamri Atapattu on the fifth ball of the over. After this wickets kept falling one after another. Fast bowler Arundhati Reddy and leg spinner Asha Shobhana destroyed the middle order. The Sri Lankan team managed to extend the innings till the last over but the entire team was bundled out for just 90 runs. Arundhati and Asha took 3 wickets each.
