WhatsApp has banned more than 8 million Indian accounts from its platform in a month for violating its privacy policy. This step has been taken to curb the spread of cybercrime and fake news which is rapidly increasing in India. Between August 1 and August 31, WhatsApp blocked a total of 8,458,000 Indian accounts. Of those, 1,661,000 accounts have been banned without complaint.
