Veteran New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill has officially announced his retirement from international cricket. Martin Guptill, who started his international career in 2009, was not part of the New Zealand team for the last two years.
Martin Guptill has played for New Zealand in all three formats. With this, his 14-year long international career has come to an end. During this time he set many records for the New Zealand team. However, he will still continue to play in T20 league cricket.
Martin Guptill is the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in the T20I format. Apart from this, he has also achieved the feat of scoring a double century in the ODI World Cup. He scored this double century during the 2015 ODI World Cup. Apart from this, he is also the third highest run-scorer for New Zealand in ODIs.
Announcing his retirement, Martin Guptill said, 'It was always my dream to play for New Zealand as a young kid and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 matches for my country.'
Martin Guptill has played a total of 198 ODIs, 122 T20s and 47 Tests for New Zealand during his international career. He has scored 2586 runs in Tests with the help of 17 half-centuries and 3 centuries. In ODIs, Guptill scored 7346 runs at an average of 41.73, with 39 fifties and 18 centuries.
