Former Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is celebrating his 44th birthday today. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, Team India has won the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy. Dhoni’s journey in international cricket was very fun.
Dhoni debut in international cricket against Bangladesh in 2004. In his first international match, Dhoni was run out without opening an account.
Dhoni had a bad start in international cricket but played a brilliant innings of 148 runs in the ODI series against Pakistan and played an important role in his team’s victory.
Dhoni then played an unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka and won the hearts of the fans. From here he became known as an explosive wicketkeeper batsman.
After constantly batting in international cricket, he was made Team India captain in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Under his captaincy, Team India beat Pakistan in the final and won the World Cup.
Team India also won the 2011 ODI World Cup under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In the final, Dhoni made Team India a champion after 28 years against Sri Lanka.
After the ODI World Cup, Dhoni made Team India a champion in the 2013 Champions Trophy final against England. Team India also won the Asia Cup title of 2010 and 2016 under Dhoni’s captaincy.
In addition, Dhoni left his mark in the IPL with his captaincy and became the most successful captain of the league. Chennai Super Kings won the IPL trophy five times under its leadership.
Dhoni’s international career ended just like his beginning. He was run out against New Zealand in the semifinals of the 2019 ODI World Cup. Dhoni scored 50 runs in the match but failed to win Team India.
Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020 and surprised fans. His performance in international cricket has always been very good. Dhoni proved to be the best player in India in the role of captain, keeper and finisher.
Dhoni scored 4876 in 90 Tests, scoring 6 centuries and 33 half centuries. His best score in the Test is 224 runs. In 350 ODI, Dhoni scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57.
