Pakistan's concern over the decision to postpone Indus Water Treaty in India is increasing day by day. The Indus Water Treaty has been discussed in the Pakistan Mission program in the United Nations. Pakistani speakers meant that India has postponed a unilateral treaty. India has ignored international commitments. Which causes serious anxiety. Meanwhile, Pakistan has said that there will be serious consequences on the breakdown of the treaty.
According to Don's report, a program was organized at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday by a permanent mission of Pakistan and the Muslim-American Leadership Coalition in the United Nations. The subject of the program was the 'Indus Water Treaty and Pakistan's Water Crisis: Challenges and Next way'. Speakers in the program described India's move as a serious violation of international law.
Threat to consequences
Osman, the deputy permanent representative of Pakistan in the United Nations, threatened India in his speech to Osman. He said that weakening of the Indus treaty would have serious humanitarian consequences. The magic said that refusing to share important data would increase food insecurity and displacement. This will create problems for women, children and the poor.
Ambassador Ahmed accused India of turning water into a weapon. He said that doing so would endanger regional peace and stability. He said that the use of water for political gain is to deprive people of their most basic human rights. India should avoid taking such a step.
Pakistan is constantly raising the issue
India announced the cancellation of the Indus treaty after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April. India has talked about stopping water from Pakistan. Pakistan has taken a strong stand in this regard and said that if India stops water, it will consider it a war announcement. Pakistan says that closure of water means risking the lives of millions of people.
Earlier this month, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also raised the issue during the SCO summit in China. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the program. Pakistan claims that in accordance with the terms of the Indus agreement, no party can unilaterally suspend or cancel the agreement. In such a case, India's step is not appropriate. India, on the other hand, has been steadfast in its attitude so far.
