In an exclusive conversation with news agency IANS, his son and Awami League Party member Sajib Wajed termed the government of Mohammad Yunus as illegitimate over the death sentence handed down by the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) to deposed Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. Along with this, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sajib Wazed said, “ICT's decision is completely illegal. It is a joke. You have a government that is completely unelected, unconstitutional and illegal. They removed 17 judges from this tribunal and appointed a new judge who has no trial bench experience and has said very bad things about my mother in public. It is clearly biased.”
Sajib took Mohammad Yunus with open arms
Sajib was asked if Mohammad Yunus was trying to kill Sheikh Hasina after the death sentence was announced. He replied, “No, they will not be able to kill them. How will they actually enforce the punishment? First, they will not be able to catch them. Second, once the rule of law is established, the whole process will be complete. Yunus will not even be able to touch my mother.” Sheikh Hasina's son, Sajib Wazed, thanked PM Narendra Modi, saying, “I will always be grateful to Prime Minister Modi. He has ensured my mother's safety. He has saved my mother's life. As the head of a country, he is keeping her under tight security, and for this, I will always be grateful to the Government of India and the people of India.”
When asked about Sheikh Hasina's extradition, he said that in order to extradite someone, there should be a law with a treaty. First, there must be a legitimate government, which does not exist. Secondly, due process should be followed, which has not been followed. The process itself must be legal, and in Bangladesh the process was completely illegal. So, my mother cannot be extradited.”
On the connection between the conviction of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the upcoming elections in Bangladesh, he said, “Absolutely. “What they have done is they have framed my mother.” He has again changed the law so that no one accused of anything can participate in the elections, which is a complete violation of due process because you cannot ban someone without conviction, that is why he had to give this sentence so quickly. He has also banned our party, the Awami League, from elections. There is no democracy here.”
