Head coach Gautham is facing severe criticism after losing the Test series against South Africa. Something happened to him on the grounds of Guwahati which he probably did not even imagine. In fact, when Gautam Gambhir came on the field after the defeat, there were loud chants of “Gautam Gambhir hi-hi” in the Guwahati stadium. Gambhir never imagined that his own people would do this to him in his own country.

Under Gautam Gambhir's coaching, the Indian team won the Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup, but still faces criticism as Team India's performance in Test cricket has been very poor. Under Gambhir's coaching, India have been clean swept at home twice. First, New Zealand beat India 3-0, and now South Africa have won the Test series 2-0. During Gambhir's tenure, Team India has only won Test series against weak teams like Bangladesh and West Indies. India lost the Test series in Australia and drew the Test series in England.

Coach Gambhir's statement about the team's performance
After the Guwahati Test defeat, Gautam Gambhir addressed the media and accepted the team's defeat. He said he would not blame anyone or any player. Gambhir said – “The truth is, we have a lot of improvements to make in red-ball cricket, be it mental or technical, the ability to handle pressure, the spirit of sacrifice or putting the team before self. And most importantly, not playing to please the gallery.”
What was said to improve test cricket?
Gambhir emphasized the need to prioritize Test cricket to improve it. He said, “As soon as runs are scored in white-ball cricket, people forget the performance in Test cricket. This should never happen. We have a lot of white-ball cricket to play. Someone can score 100 runs in 40, 50 or 80 balls. But the truth is, we need to get better in red-ball cricket.”
